2025 Jacobs Summer Fellowship

Application Information

About the Jacobs Fellowship

  • Named after both Jane and Allan "Great Streets" Jacobs.

  • Available to first-year graduate planning and urban design students.

  • Approximately 10-12 week term during the summer of 2025.

  • Stipend of $1,000 per week.

  • In-person at Speck Dempsey's office in Brookline, Massachusetts.

  • Work closely with firm founders Jeff Speck and Chris Dempsey.

  • Successful participation in the Fellowship may lead to offers of part-time work in the coming academic year and full-time work post graduation.

Fellowship Activities

  • Participating in Speck Dempsey's active urban planning and design projects with public and private clients across the United States.

  • Attending Jeff Speck's Walkable City class at Harvard (May 22-23).

  • Participating in the Congress for the New Urbanism in Providence, RI (June 11-14).

  • Learning the basics of a city-planning consulting business.

  • Shadowing Jeff Speck as he travels to present Walkable City Talks and work on projects.

  • Creating marketing materials for our growing firm.

  • Advancing our firm's social media presence.

Fellowship Activities

How to Apply

  1. Let us know of your intention to apply by March 14th via an email to info@speckdempsey.com.

  2. Submit the following application materials by 5PM on March 28th:

    1. A one-page cover letter describing your familiarity with our work and what you hope to get out of the Fellowship.​

    2. Your resume / CV.

    3. A standard small portfolio of your design and/or planning work.
